In the first half of 2023, 21.46 tons of snails worth $190,500 were exported from Georgia. Exports were made to two European countries - France and Italy.
Out of these, 1.22 tons of snails worth $7,000 were sold in Italy, and 20.24 tons of snails worth $183,000 were sold in France.
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), the export of snails produced in Georgia has been going on for two years. Georgian snails were sold in Europe last year as well. In 2022, 44.30 tons of snails worth $263,500 were exported to France and Italy.
In December 2021, Georgia was added to the list of countries from where the export of snails to the EU market is allowed, in accordance with the regulation of the European Commission.
