In the first half of 2023, Georgia earned $430 million in revenue from software development and computer services. This is 194% higher than the indicator of the same period last year.
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), the economic growth in the field of information, communication and telecommunications in the first quarter was 44%, and in the second quarter the economic growth rate amounted to 20%. Overall, the growth of the sector is expected to reach 30% by the end of the year. The income indicator is also similar, if in the first quarter the foreign income of the IT sector was $231 million, in the second quarter it amounted to $198 million.
The sharp increase in the income of the IT sector in Georgia is due to two factors, the first of which is the entry of international companies into the country, the trend of which has been fixed in the market for the last 3-4 years. As a result of this, the scope of outsourcing services in Georgia has increased dramatically.
The second factor is migration, because the increase in the turnover of this sector directly coincides with 2022, when thousands of Russians, Ukrainian and Belarussian IT specialist entered Georgia. Therefore, the increasing trend is in direct agreement with the migration indicators. This is probably indicated by the reduced turnover in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter, which corresponds to the outflow of a certain number of IT migrants.
