
The National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat) published the annual inflation report today. According to the document, in August compared to the previous year, the overall level of prices increased by 10.9%, which is 0.6 percentage points less than the 11.5% inflation in July.
The formation of the annual inflation was mainly influenced by price changes on the following groups:
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: prices in the grouping increased by 15.8%, reflecting the annual inflation by 5.14 percentage points. Prices increased for the following subgroups: bread and bakery products (32.4%), milk, cheese and eggs (20.8%), mineral and spring water, non-alcoholic beverages and natural juices (20.3%), oil and fat (19.8%), coffee, tea and cocoa (18.7%), sugar, jam and other sweets (18.6%), fish (13.6%), meat and meat products (11.1%), fruit and grapes (2.5%). At the same time, the prices of vegetables and garden vegetables decreased (-9.6%);
Prices in the transport group increased by 15.6%, which reflected the increase of the overall index by 1.87 percentage points. Prices have increased for the operation of personal vehicles (18.7%), transportation services (14.5%), and the purchase of vehicles (1.6%);
Housing, water, electricity, gas: the group recorded a 12.4 percent increase in prices, which was reflected in the annual inflation by 1.19 percentage points. Prices increased for the subgroups: property taxes (22.5%), the tcurrent housing maintenance and repair (12.8%), electricity, gas and other types of heating (6.0%);
Hotels, cafes and restaurants: prices increased by 14.9%, which were reflected in the annual inflation by 0.63 percentage points. Prices increased for the following subgroups: both public catering (15.4%) and overnight services (11.7%).
