
According to the PMC research center, despite the partial recovery of international visits, the total expenditure of international visitors in the first quarter exceeded the pre-pandemic rate by 21%. As for the second quarter, the tourist expenses were only 6% less than those in the second quarter of 2019.
Average expenses per visit tripled in the Q1 2022 compared to the corresponding periods in 2019, and nearly doubled in the Q2 2022. According to the organization, this is explained by the fact that in the first half of 2022, the average duration of visits almost doubled and increased from 3.8 to 6.4 nights. According to the study, the total expenditure of international visitors in the first quarter amounted to GEL 1.4 billion, while this figure was GEL 1.2 billion in 2019. Compared to 2019, the average expenses per visit also increased in the first quarter and amounted to GEL 2,778, while in the second quarter it was GEL 2,440. Compared to the corresponding period of 2019, the expenses in the II quarter are 6% less.
In the first half of 2022, as in the previous periods, the most international visits were made from neighboring countries: namely, from Turkey (18% of total visits), Russia (17%) and Armenia (14%).
