“Russia is facing a shortage of warehouses for parallel imports in the transit countries of the CIS and post-Soviet space, including Georgia,” – the NF Group's research reads.
It is a fact that after the beginning of the war, the re-export from Georgia to the CIS countries has doubled. In January-February 2022, i.e. before international sanctions were imposed against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, products worth 167.7 million US dollars were re-exported from Georgia, and in the same period of 2023, when all sanctions against Russia were already in effect, products worth 361.3 million US dollars were exported.
The list of top 5 products that were resold from Georgia to the CIS countries in January-February 2022 is as follows:
Light vehicles - $64.5 million
Packaged medicinal products - $18.5 million
Telephone equipment, including telephones for cellular networks or other wireless networks - $9.3 million
Other industrial tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes - $5.5 million
Cigars, cigarillos and cigarettes made of tobacco or its substitutes - $4.9 million
Top 5 products that were resold from Georgia to the CIS countries in January-February 2023:
Light vehicles - $229.6 million
Cars designed to transport 10 people or more, including the driver - $20 million
Cigars, cigarillos and cigarettes made of tobacco or its substitutes - $15.3 million
Trucks - $7.1 million
