
The 16th annual session of the Channel Tunnel Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) of the international transport program TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor) was opened in Tbilisi.
This year's high-level event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of TRACECA's establishment and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Multilateral Agreement (MLA) on International Transport for the Development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Corridor.
As part of the session, such important issues as the development of multimodal and maritime transport, the promotion of border crossing procedures and other relevant directions related to the development of the TRACECA corridor will be discussed. Consideration of issues related to institutional development is also provided.
The delegations of the countries participating in the session will discuss the results of the implementation of the TRACECA Multilateral Permits System for international road transport in 2021, the status of the implementation of the decisions of the intergovernmental commission by the parties to the agreement, information on inclusion in international agreements, and also the report on the 2018-2021 action plan of the TRACECA intergovernmental commission, the purpose of which is to implement the strategy for the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international transport corridor in 2016-2026.
The program of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission also envisages the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Permanent Secretariats and the Office of the High Representative of the United Nations for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
The fact that Turkmenistan is ready to join the main multilateral agreement on the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA) deserves special attention.
At the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, it is planned to adopt the multimodal transport development document of the TRACECA corridor and the summary resolution of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission. It should be noted that from February 11, 2023, Georgia will be the country chairing the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission for 2 years.
