TBC Capital assessed the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on wine exports. According to the TBC Capital Wine Industry Survey, in 2021, Georgia earned $ 234 million from wine exports, including $ 130 million from Russia and $ 23 million from Ukraine.
Irina Kvakhadze, Head of the TBC Capital Research Service, told Business Morning program that, given the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, Georgia would have a 30% reduction in wine exports.
"One thing is clear, after the embargo imposed on the Georgian wine by Russia in 2006, today our market is more diversified. However, the share of Russia and Ukraine in our exports is about 57-65%. Independent of the war scenario, we expected that if exports remained at the same pace as in 2021, then we expected a 11%-increase in foreign trade, but given the current situation, we expect a 30% reduction in exports," - said Kvakhadze.
