Unemployment in Georgia was at its lowest rate in 20 years in 2022, the World Bank has said in its highlighting of statistics showing last year’s figure in the country at 11.3%.
The numbers, sourced from the International Labour Organisation’s database, also showed the unemployment rate went down 0.9% last year compared to 2021.
They also contrast the 19.6% unemployment figure from 2012 - leading to a figure of 324,000 unemployed individuals - to 175,000 in 2022.
Last week’s data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia showed the unemployment rate decreased by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2023 year-on-year and equaled 18 % across the country.
The Office also said the number of hired employees had increased by 5.6% and reached 863,500 individuals, while the number of self-employed had risen by 6.6 percent and equaled 407,700 people.
