
Last year, Georgia earned $ 4.7 million by exporting 2,439 tons of tea.
Official statistics show that in 2021, the value of exports decreased by 8.2%, while the volume of products sold increased by 2.7%.
As for the exporting countries, according to the volume, the largest amount of tea was exported to Mongolia during this period, and according to the export value, the main export market for Georgia is Azerbaijan. The TOP-10 list of exporting countries are as follows:
1. Azerbaijan - $ 2.3 million, 335 tons;
2. Turkey - $ 622 thousand, 196 tons;
3. Mongolia - $ 492 thousand, 899 tons;
4. Belarus - $ 198 thousand, 130 tons;
5. Turkmenistan - $ 190 thousand, 111 tons;
6. Kazakhstan - $ 176 thousand, 441 tons;
7. Ukraine - $ 159 thousand, 91 tons;
8. Russia - $ 125 thousand, 160 tons;
9. Uzbekistan - $ 116 thousand, 15 tons;
10. Estonia - $ 93 thousand, 1 ton.
In addition, small volumes of tea have been exported to the Czech Republic, Germany, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Canada, Israel, France, Armenia, Moldova, Poland, the USA and other countries.
Based on the data of the first quarter of 2022, 477 tons of tea worth 959 thousand dollars were exported from Georgia. Export earnings in this period amounted to 15.6%, which is lower than the same period last year, and 35.9% lower than in the first quarter of 2019 (January-March 2021 - $ 1.1 million, 614 tons; I quarter of 2020 - $ 1.5 million, 655 tons).
As for tea imports last year, statistics show that in 2021, $ 9 million transferred from the country to buy 2,524 tons of tea, which is a decrease of 13.8% compared to the 2020 imports.
It should be noted that as in the case of exports, the main import market for tea in Georgia is Azerbaijan. The TOP-10 importing countries are as follows:
1. Azerbaijan - $ 4.9 million, 782 tons;
2. Russia - $ 1.7 million, 266 tons;
3. Sri Lanka - $ 1.4 million, 324 tons;
4. Turkey - $ 272 thousand dollars, 1 002 tons;
5. Germany - $ 143 thousand, 6 tons;
6. The United Arab Emirates - $ 143 thousand, 12 tons;
7. France - $ 125 thousand, 3 tons;
8. Iran - $ 70 thousand, 101 tons;
9. Poland - $ 46 thousand, 1 ton;
10. China - $ 36 thousand, 12 tons.
