“In the period of January-March 2023, the total amount of cargo transported by the transport sectors of Georgia (automotive, railway, civil aviation) amounted to 9.5 million tons, which is 2.4% (9.3 million tons) more compared to the same period of 2022,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports.
"Moreover, in the reporting period, a total of 6.4 million tons of cargo was transported by road vehicles, which is 1.1% more than in the same period of 2022.
As for railways, the total number of transported cargoes amounted to 3.2 million tons, which is 5.0% more than in the same period of 2022.
In the first quarter of 2023, the total amount of cargo transported by the international airports of Georgia amounted to 4.01 thousand tons, which is 0.4% higher than the similar indicator of 2022.
In the seaports of Georgia, Poti and Batumi, the total amount of cargo processed in January-March 2023 amounted to 2.8 million tons, which is 6.8% less than in the same period of 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, the total number of containers processed in the mentioned seaports amounted to 147,021 TEU, which is 45.4% (101,093 TEU) more compared to the same period of 2022.
At the same time, the number of containers processed in Poti seaport amounted to 124,256 TEU, which is 66.0% (74,853 TEU) more than the same period of 2022.
In the first quarter of 2023, positive dynamics of the number of passengers transported by the transport sectors (automotive, railway, civil aviation) of Georgia were observed. The total figure was 85.8 million passengers, which is 1.5% more than in the same period of 2022.
The largest number of passengers - 84.3 million - was transported by road transport, which is 0.8% more than in the same period of 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, international airports of Georgia transported 1.0 million passengers, which is 48.6% more than in the same period of 2022. As for the passenger flow of the Georgian Railways, in the period of January-March 2023, the railway served 0.5 million passengers, which is 98.3% more compared to the same period of 2022.
