According to the Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, in 10 months of the current year, 852,926 people visited the protected areas of Georgia.
Reportedly, the number of visitors during this period is 56% higher than last year, but compared to 2019 data, these numbers show a 75% recovery, which means that compared to the pre-pandemic period, the national parks were visited by 25% fewer people.
It should be noted that the majority of visitors - 54% (458,557) - are citizens of foreign countries, therefore 46% of visits were made by Georgians.
The National Environmental Protection Agency notes that the travel prices to the protected areas have not changed this year and their cost starts from GEL 5.
The Agency of Protected Areas stated that “the revenue received from tourism in the country is reported by the National Tourism Administration of Georgia and is not counted separately.”
