
According to the International Energy Agency, sales of electric vehicles worldwide are reaching record highs.
A total of 10 million electric vehicles are expected to be sold in 2022, accounting for 14% of all new vehicle sales. In 2021, the similar rate was 9%, and in 2020, it was 5%.
This trend can also be observed in Georgia. In the 4 months of this year, 545 units of electric vehicles worth $15.9 million were imported into the country, which is the historical maximum recorded at this time of the year.
The import value is 220% higher than last year's value of $4.97 million. The number has increased by 208% from 177 units of the previous year.
Georgia's top trading partners by imports this year are the USA, China and Germany.
The annual indicators are also at a record level. In the past year 2022, 1,280 electric cars worth $31.7 million entered the country.
The import value increased by 298% from $7.9 million in 2022, and the quantity increased by 234% from 383 units.
Last year, in terms of imports, the USA, China and Germany dominated:
The USA – $12.5 million, 666 units;
Germany – $9.4 million, 313 units;
Germany – $4.9 million, 60 units.
