In January-February 2023, eggs worth $457,480 were imported to Georgia, out of which the products worth of $189,780 - in January, and worth of $267,700 - in February. The Georgian Poultry Federation says that Georgia's trading partner by egg imports is Turkey.
According to Zurab Uchumbegashvili, the increase in imports has a negative effect on local production and does not affect the price either.
“As for the reasons for the increase in imports from Turkey, Georgia has three main trading partners by egg imports: Ukraine, Belarus and Turkey. After the war, the main importing country is only Turkey,” – Uchumbegashvili explains.
"The Russia-Ukraine war led to the disconnection of Ukraine and Belarus, and the only country left was Turkey, which behaves aggressively. Turkey believes that Georgia is its market, and does not shy away from either dumping or harming Georgians. Despite the conversations, we have no results; there is no progress in this direction", - Zurab Uchumbegashvili said.
