
In the first half of this year, the export volume of fresh or frozen tomatoes from Georgia doubled. In total, 2,235 tons of tomatoes worth $2 million 698 thousand were sold from the country. Accordingly, the export value increased by 97.6%, and the volume by 79.1%.
According to official statistics, in six months, 1,203 tons of locally produced tomatoes worth $1.2 million were exported from Georgia.

Generally, in January-June, Russia and Turkey were the main sales markets for both local and re-exported tomatoes. This year tomatoes were sold to three countries:
1. Russia - $1.5 million, 1 244 tons;
2. Armenia - $1.1 million, 972 tons;
3. Qatar - $18 thousand, 18 tons.
As for imports, the figures of purchase of fresh or frozen tomatoes in the country are significantly higher than exports. In the first half of 2023, 18,968 tons of tomatoes worth $7,897,000 were imported into Georgia, which is 59.3% higher in value and 32.3% higher in volume than the same period last year.
According to official statistics, tomatoes were imported from 6 countries in January-June, and Turkey was the main importer. Ranking of the countries Georgia bought tomatoes from:
1. Turkey - $7.8 million, 18,781 tons;
2. Iran - $70 thousand, 154 tons;
3. Egypt - $13 thousand, 9 tons;
4. Syria - $9 thousand, 23 tons;
In the same period, tomatoes were imported from France and the Netherlands in insignificant volumes.
