The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili will deliver a speech in the European Parliament on April 18. As Salome Zurabishvili said during her speech in the Parliament, she will make the position of the Georgian people known to Europe.
"Recently, I have received the invitation of the President of the European Parliament to give a speech in the European Parliament, which has not happened since 2010. I know it will not be easy, but it is necessary for Europe to understand and listen to what our people have to say. The role of the president before the country does not end there. Today we are facing the crisis; at this time it is logical that when the people and the government find it difficult to talk to each other, the institution of the president has to serve as the constitutional body that is balancing and unifying," - the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, said during her annual report at the extraordinary session of the Parliament.
According to Salome Zurabishvili, she will use all platforms to protect Georgia's European position.
“I intend to fully use all my opportunities to protect and implement the will of the people. This requires the complete consolidation and unification of the country. Since so far it has not been possible for Georgia's European positions and image to be protected and strengthened with our European partners, that is why I decided to actively participate in this process and promote unified and consolidated work and achieve real results together that will bring us the status of a candidate for the EU membership.
I accept this responsibility because I am everyone's president and I do not represent any side or the other side, except for the Georgian people. We should not miss our chance, and whoever is able to do it, she/he will also be able to say: "The will of the Georgian nation has been fulfilled today," - Salome Zurabishvili stated.
