"I asked the Political and Security Committee to meet today for an urgent discussion of the difficult situation in Georgia. I also included this issue in the agenda of the November Foreign Affairs Council," - the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced.
According to his own statement, the developments after the October 26 parliamentary elections in Georgia are very disturbing.
"For months, the population of Georgia has been showing its commitment to democratic values and to the country's path to the European Union. They deserve clarity regarding the election process in order to have faith in the legitimacy of the next government. It is important that the protests and the government's response to them remain peaceful. The democratic backsliding in the country must be stopped and completely changed, and a favorable environment for the media, civil society and the opposition, which make up a pluralistic, democratic society, must be ensured," said Borell's statement.
