Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó expressed strong opposition to the EU's proposal to sanction Georgian officials, stating that Hungary would veto any such measures. He criticized the EU for undermining Georgia's democratic process, particularly after the conservative party's election victory, and accused the liberal mainstream in Brussels of trying to dismiss the will of the Georgian people. 

Szijjártó reaffirmed Hungary's support for Georgia's European integration and rejected a recent European Parliament resolution as harmful and humiliating. He stressed that Hungary would oppose any sanctions against Georgian officials, deeming the proposal unfounded and unsupported by evidence.
