From 2023, SOCAR is scheduled to start importing Euro 5 standard diesel into Georgia. The highest quality fuel will enter Georgia from Azerbaijan. The diesel factory in Baku has been in the process of retooling for a long time, which is actually at the stage of completion, and the factory is ready to produce Euro 5 standard diesel from spring.
Until now, the share of SOCAR in diesel imports was up to 40%, which was temporarily reduced due to the retooling of the plant in 2022. In the current year, it is expected that SOCAR will recover this share again. This means that ordinary consumers and corporate clients will have the opportunity to get the highest quality Euro 5 diesel at a relatively low price. The low price is due to the geographical proximity of the neighboring country, simplified logistics chain, short transportation time and the cost of the imported products themselves.
Over the years, all types of gasoline and Euro diesel of SOCAR met the Euro 5 standard, however, the portfolio also included Euro 4 type diesel imported from Azerbaijan, which was sold in the local network at a relatively low price.
In addition to Georgia, SOCAR operates in such large countries as Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and Azerbaijan. In these countries, SOCAR imports the highest quality fuel with nanoadditives, which is supplied by the largest international petrochemical company BASF SE. BASF employs 111,000 people and last year its turnover was 78.6 billion euros.
