
Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of the Union of Georgian Airports, met with the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic in Azerbaijan and Georgia. At the meeting with Kairat Osmonaliyev, the possible start of direct air traffic between Kyrgyzstan and Georgia was discussed.
"Having direct air connections with the countries of Central Asia is very important for us. Promotion of direct air traffic between Kyrgyzstan and Georgia is one of the priorities of our agenda. Due to the increase in passenger flow, the Kutaisi International Airport is becoming more and more attractive for airlines. We promised the Ambassador that we would find the opportunities between both Georgian and Kyrgyz airlines so that the two countries can cooperate in terms of direct air traffic," said Irakli Karkashadze.
At this stage, there are no direct regular flights between the two countries. In the first quarter of 2023, 3,432 visitors from Kyrgyzstan arrived in Georgia. And in 2022, 14,218 visitors, which is an increase of 7% compared to 2019. Honorary Consul of Kyrgyzstan in Georgia Archil Maziashvili and Aviation Business Development Manager of Airports Association Vako Chilashvili attended the meeting held with the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan at the head office of the Union of Airports.
