
The volume of gold exports from Georgia decreased by 13.0% annually in the four months of this year. According to a review by Galt&Taggart, the global price increase also affected the average export price, which grew by 14.6% year-on-year.
As for the situation in the global market, in May 2024, the price of gold increased by 1.8% per month. Despite the small growth, the precious metal continues its ascent and during the month exceeded the new record mark - $2,400.
It should be noted that in addition to legal trade, the black market in gold is also growing. According to a SwissAid study, gold worth about $35 billion is smuggled out of Africa every year, with most of it destined for the United Arab Emirates. Based on the study, 435 tons of African gold were sold in the black market in 2022, which amounts to 40% of the continent's production and 12% of the global supply.
