Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili met with Khalil Achkar, Vice President of Global Blue, a leading international company in tax-free shopping and payment technologies.
According to the Ministry, the discussion focused on Georgia’s economic growth trends, especially in tourism, civil aviation, retail, and related sectors. Officials highlighted Georgia’s ongoing efforts to develop new tourism products aimed at attracting higher-spending visitors.
Given the country’s stable economic growth and the rising contribution of tourism, Global Blue is considering entering the Georgian market. Such a move, the Ministry noted, would strengthen tourism’s economic impact, as internationally recognised tax-free standards typically encourage greater tourist spending.
The meeting also underscored that Global Blue’s potential launch in Georgia could significantly boost the retail sector, enhance market competitiveness, attract more premium brands, and support the country’s digital economy.
