Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to Georgia, said his Government wanted to see Georgia receive the European Union membership candidate status in December.
Fischer stated the discussions on the EU membership would start after the country was granted the status.
However, he added Georgia first needed to take the necessary steps in the process, and added the country’s partners were hoping to see “considerable advancement” in the implementation of conditions outlined by the European Council last year.
Fischer named justice reform and de-oligarchisation among the recommendations, and while acknowledging some of the priorities had been met, he added the bloc wanted to see “major improvements” on other conditions.
