According to the data of 8 months of 2022, Japan was among the top-10 trading partner countries of Georgia. According to official statistics, trade turnover between Georgia and Japan in January-August of this year, compared to the same period last year, increased by 47% to $193.9 million. The main share in trade is 94.6% of imports.
In 8 months, Georgia purchased goods worth of $183.5 million from Japan, which is 55.5% higher than the data of the same period last year. It should be noted that in the last 10 years, the highest rate of imports from Japan was recorded in 2014, which amounted to $224.4 million.
The main import goods from Japan are light vehicles, which are 90% of the total imports. The TOP-10 goods imported into Georgia are as follows:
1. Light vehicles – with the earnings of $167 million;
2. Pneumatic hoops made of rubber and new tires - with the earnings of $3 million (606 tons);
3. Pneumatic hoops made of rubber and tires, restored or used - with the earnings of $2.3 million (1 586 tons);
4. Isotopes, except for isotopes of 2844 commodity positions - with the earnings of $1.2 million, (4 tons);
5. Printing equipment, including inkjet printing machines - with the earnings of $1.1 million, (59 tons);
6. Parts of used cars - with the earnings of $1.1 million dollars, (680 tons);
7. Automobiles designed to transport 10 people or more - with the earnings of $1.1 million;
8. Trucks - with the earnings of $1 million;
9. Tools and devices for use in medicine or veterinary medicine - with the earnings of $613 thousand, (10 tons);
10. Tractors and saddles - with the earnings of $592 thousand.
As for exports, the data of exports with a small share in the trade turnover with Japan in 8 months of this year decreased by 25% compared to the indicator recorded in thesame period of the previous year and amounted to $10.4 million. The TOP-10 export goods are as follows:
1. Unprocessed aluminum - with the earnings of $4.1 million, (1 735 tons);
2. Waste and scrap of precious metals or metals alloyed with precious metals - with the earnings of $4.1 million, (9 tons);
3. Natural grape wines - with the earnings of $964 thousand, (133 tons);
4. Pneumatic hoops made of rubber and tires - with the earnings of $351 thousand, (32 tons);
5. Light vehicles - with the earnings of $307 thousand;
6. Fruit and vegetable juices - with the earnings of $298 thousand, (179 tons);
7. Parts and belongings for typewriters and calculators - with the earnings of $ 66 thousand, (10 tons);
8. Shoes with rubber, polymer material, leather sole and leather surface - with the earnings of $23 thousand;
9. Non-denatured ethyl alcohol - with the earnings of $23 thousand dollars, (1 ton);
10. Natural honey - with the earnings of $16 thousand dollars, (1 ton).
