As of 2022, Azerbaijan is among Georgia's top trading partners by exports. Last year, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to $1 billion 314 million and Azerbaijan ranked 4th in the ranking of the largest partners with a share of 6.9%.
During the last 10 years, the trade turnover between Georgia and Azerbaijan was a record last year. Compared to the export and import of 2021, the trade turnover of the countries in 2022 was 3.9% higher.
However, according to official statistics, export data exceeded the import statistics. During 2022, Georgia earned a total of $672 million from the sale of goods in Azerbaijan, which is 26.5% higher than the export of 2021. During the previous year, almost half of the exported goods includes the re-exported light vehicles and its share in the total export is 45.8%.
In addition to the largest groups of goods exported to Azerbaijan, last year Georgia exported to the neighboring country a large volume of telephone sets, malt extracts, cotton wool, mineral waters with sugar additives, cyanides, oxycyanides, complex cyanides, animal nutrition products, bulldozers, auto graders, excavators, rammers and others, rubber shoes, polymer material, leather soles and leather uppers and other goods.
As for imports, a total of $642 million were spent on purchasing goods in Azerbaijan last year, which is a 7.3% increase compared to 2021 imports. As a result, neighboring Azerbaijan ranked 6th among the largest importing countries with a share of 7.3%. The largest imported goods were petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons.
