
Last year 2022, 12,324 tons of apples worth $7 million 922 thousand were exported from the country. During this period, the volume of goods sold is 20.6% lower than the 2021 indicator, and the value is lower by 0.8%.
According to official statistics, Georgia's top trading partners by apple exports are post-Soviet countries. Among them, the largest amount of apples is sold to Russia.
According to last year's statistics, the ranking of apple exporting countries is as follows:
1. Russia - $7.5 million, 11,658 tons;
2. Armenia - $274 thousand, 286 tons;
3. Azerbaijan - $53 thousand, 236 tons;
4. Slovenia - $16 thousand, 40 tons;
5. Kazakhstan - $15 thousand, 41 tons;
6. Lithuania - $6 thousand, 42 tons.
7. Ukraine - $3 thousand, 20 tons.
In a small, insignificant volume, apples also were exported to Singapore.
At the beginning of this year, Georgia received $703 thousand worth revenue from the export of apples. In January, we exported 1,090 tons of apples only to Russia and Armenia. The main volumes of 1,083 tons went to Russia.
As for the import index, Georgia bought 6,338 tons of fresh apples worth $2,473,000 last year. Accordingly, imports increased both in volume and value (2021: 6,338 tons, $2.4 million).
Georgia's top trading partner by imports for apples was Turkey, while Ukraine ranked 2nd. The ranking of apple importing countries is as follows:
1. Turkey - $1.3 million, 3 849 tons;
2. Ukraine - $461 thousand, 1 354 tons;
3. Moldova - $442 thousand, 772 tons;
4. Netherlands - $164 thousand, 105 tons;
5. Poland - $42 thousand, 101 tons;
6. Iran - $28 thousand, 81 tons.
