
In 2024, Georgia’s unemployment rate dropped by 2.5 percentage points compared to 2023, reaching 13.9%, according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
The labour force participation rate—the share of the population aged 15 and older either working or actively seeking work—rose by 1.5 percentage points to 54.8%. Meanwhile, the employment rate increased by 2.6 percentage points, reaching 47.1%.
In urban areas, labour force participation grew by 1.6 points, and in rural areas by 1.4 points. The employment rate also improved in both settings—rising 3.1 points in cities (to 48.5%) and 1.9 points in rural areas (to 45.3%).
Among employed individuals, the share of hired workers stood at 68.5%, slightly down by 0.5 percentage points from the previous year.
The urban unemployment rate fell by 3.2 percentage points, while the rural unemployment rate declined by 1.4 points. Regionally, the most notable drops were in:

Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti: –5.6 points

Gender disparities remain, but both men and women experienced improvements:

Unemployment decreased by 2.8 points for women and 2.2 points for men.

Labour force participation was higher for men (66.2%) than for women (44.9%), though both increased by 1.1 and 1.8 points, respectively.

Employment rates also rose—2.8 points for women and 2.3 points for men.
Unemployment varied sharply by age:

The 15–19 age group had the highest unemployment rate at 36.3%.

The 65+ age group had the lowest at 4.2%, largely due to low labour force activity among older individuals.
