Following the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, High Representative Kaja Kallas stated that proposed sanctions against Georgia remain stalled due to lack of consensus among EU member states.
Kallas announced that the European Commission will release a visa suspension report later this year, potentially affecting specific groups. She also confirmed Georgia was excluded from a ministerial meeting with Black Sea and Central Asian countries.
Criticizing the Georgian government’s actions against independent media, civil society, and peaceful protesters, Kallas said these steps are incompatible with EU values. Asked about Georgia’s EU candidate status, she responded, “With these measures, it is impossible to consider.”
