Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the vital role of the country’s seafarers in strengthening the national economy, noting their annual contribution exceeds $200 million USD. He made the remarks during an event in Batumi marking International Maritime Day.
"Georgian seafarers are a source of national pride," said the Prime Minister. "Their professionalism, work ethic, and reliability have earned international recognition, with our seafarer certificates acknowledged by the European Union and over 50 countries."
Kobakhidze stressed that ensuring the welfare of Georgian seafarers—through decent working and living conditions—remains a key priority for the government. He also highlighted Georgia’s recent accession to the International Maritime Labour Convention, which took effect in February, as a major step in safeguarding the rights and standards of maritime workers.
