
"Remittances to Georgia from abroad hit $290 million in August, up by 0.3 percent month-on-month, with the figure including $129.17 million sent from European Union member countries," - the National Bank said.
Transfers from EU states constituted 44.46 percent of the total volume increasing by 12.40 percent year-on-year in the past month.
Among countries of the bloc, remittances from Italy topped the amounts with $49.29 million (+8.43 percent y/y), followed by Germany with $25.37 million (+22.38 percent) and Greece with $22.35 million (+10.48 percent).
The highest amount of remittances from other countries came from the United States ($50.77mln), Russia ($42.55mln) and Israel ($19.83mln).
Overall, 96.2 percent of the total money transfers from abroad originated in 24 countries, with the volume of transfers from them each exceeding $1 million in August.
Last month, remittances leaving Georgia totaled $33.1 million, compared to $29.5 million in August 2023.
