
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), in January 2023, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 15% in annual terms. In this category, vegetables and horticultural crops have increased in price the most, by 26.5%.
Last year vegetables worth 47.5 million US dollars were imported into Georgia, which is 32.7% more than the figure of 2021, 35.8 million US dollars.
It should be noted that the value of imported vegetables this year is the highest since 2014, and the import reached a record level of 60.3 million US dollars in 2011.
According to the countries, the biggest suppliers of vegetables to Georgia are Turkey, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The detailed data of Georgia's top-5 trading partners by imports are as follows:
• Turkey - $ 26.6 million;
• Uzbekistan - $ 6.1 million;
• Azerbaijan - $ 3.6 million;
• Russia - $ 1.9 million;
• Iran - $ 1.7 million.
As for exports, against the backdrop of import growth, the value of products exported from Georgia almost halved in 2022 and amounted to 14.5 million US dollars; in 2021 the figure was a record 28.6 million US dollars. The largest amount of products was exported to Russia (US$ 6.6 million), Armenia (US$ 3.5 million) and Azerbaijan (US$ 1.9 million).
