Snails grown in Racha, west Georgian region, were exported. As the owner of the farm Tamaz Dvali said, the demand for snails from the foreign market is quite high, which reduces the risks of its sale.
"I developed the snail farm in a test mode on about 400,000 square meters. I transferred the products to the company Nadi Group, which exported them. Snails are mainly demanded by Italian and Portuguese, and in some cases French markets. The price of the products on the spot is about 3 euros, while in the foreign market – 7 euros," said Tamaz Dvali.
According to him, natural conditions are suitable for breeding snails in Racha, but there are risks, which are mainly related to the high temperature during the summer: “The problem is basically heat and diseases, which should not occur either to the snail or to the environment where it grows".
As for the investment made in the mentioned case, Tamaz Dvali says, the cultivation of 1 hectare of snail farm costs about 60-70 thousand euros, and it is possible to get that capital back in 1.5 years, if the crop can be harvested twice during the year.
