
President Mikheil Kavelashvili of Georgia met with Pope Leo XIV, extending his congratulations once again on the Pope’s recent election as head of the Catholic Church. President Kavelashvili described the beginning of the new pontificate as "a symbol of hope for the future, spiritual renewal, and unity for the entire world."
According to the Georgian President’s Administration, the meeting focused on the current relationship between Georgia and the Holy See, with both leaders discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
President Kavelashvili emphasized the importance of shared Christian values as a strong foundation for deepening ties between Georgia and the Vatican. He also expressed gratitude to the Pope for his continued support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pope Leo XIV, in turn, underscored the global need for peace and voiced his commitment to expanding the partnership with Georgia.
During the meeting, President Kavelashvili extended an official invitation for the Pope to visit Georgia.
