President Mikheil Kavelashvili praised Georgia’s October 4 municipal elections as being held “in compliance with the highest democratic standards” and congratulated the ruling Georgian Dream party on its victory.
He thanked the Election Commission and participating parties for their role in the democratic process. However, Kavelashvili strongly condemned a parallel rally in Tbilisi, claiming it was an attempted coup “organized by foreign special services.”
The President denounced the unrest, including vandalism near the Presidential Administration, and warned of a strict response to any future attempts at violent government overthrow. He emphasized that power in Georgia must change only through democratic means and praised citizens for their political maturity.
