Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili attended the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, joining a gathering of world leaders to mark the occasion.

“I once again warmly congratulate His Holiness Leo XIV on his election as Pope; I am confident he will carry out this highly honourable and, at the same time, responsible mission with dignity,” President Kavelashvili stated.

Highlighting the longstanding relationship between Georgia and the Holy See, the President added, “Georgia truly prides itself on and values its historical ties with the Holy See and is ready to continue relations based on peace, mutual respect and shared values.”
