
The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili met with the Executive Director of Tata Power Company, Praveer Sinha.
According to the Government Administration, the parties discussed the implemented and planned large investments in the Georgian energy sector and discussed the prospects of further cooperation.
Tata Power, together with the Norwegian company Clean Energy Invest, owns the company Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC, which, in turn, is the largest investor in the energy sector of Georgia. The company implemented the construction of Shuakhevi HPP cascade with a capacity of 187 MW, the investment value of which was more than $550 million.
Shuakhevi HPP increases domestic electricity production by approximately 5%, strengthens the energy security and contributes to the energy independence of Georgia. The project is financed by the three largest financial institutions such as: the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
According to the head of the government, the large-scale projects implemented in the field of energy ensure the country's energy independence and energy security, which, in turn, helps stimulate the economy and create new jobs.
It should be noted that more than 1,000 people were employed during the construction stage of Shuakhevi HPP, most of whom were local residents, while the number of employees during the operation stage is about 100 people.
