
The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, together with the members of the Government, paid tribute to 11 heroes, whose remains have been transferred from Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region, with the public funeral held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
Irakli Gharibashvili highlighted the Red Cross society’s invaluable role in assisting the Georgian Government to transfer the bodies of the country’s deceased heroes to Tbilisi from occupied regions and thanked everyone involved in the process.
"We returned the remains of our eleven heroes to their families and once again I want to express my condolences to them", - the Prime Minister stated.
With joint efforts of the State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the remains of three civilians - Giorgi Jokhadze, Otar Tutisani, Yuri Macharashvili and eight fighters, who died during the 1992-1993 military conflicts in the Georgia’s Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia - Otar Gagua, Revaz Kvaratskhelia, Vakhtang Khojanashvili, Bidzina Ushkhvani, Zviadi Ushkhvani, Boris Berulava, Spiridon Tirkia, and Khvicha Dekanosidze - were transferred.
