
The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili met the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Francesco Rocca today.
Focus was made on the operation of the IFRC and Red Cross Society of Georgia within the country, including the efforts directed at tackling the results of COVID-19. Their significant role was particularly noted in the provision of humanitarian aid to the socially vulnerable and elderly population of Georgia. Discussion was also centered at the steps to be taken jointly by the IFRC and Government of Georgia to further deepen the cooperation.
Reference was made to the 11TH Regional Conference of IFRC Europe, which is hosted in Georgia. It was highlighted that tangible results are expected of the event in terms of responses to the current challenges of the region.
Attention was paid to the military activities witnessed in Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Georgia reiterated solid support of the country towards Ukraine, thereby noting that this support manifested both in political dimension and humanitarian aid.
Meeting held at the Government Administration was also related to the current situation witnessed in the occupied territories of Georgia, along with the security and humanitarian conditions in the country. Irakli Gharibashvili noted that Georgia remains committed to the idea of peaceful conflict resolution.
The meeting was attended by Birgit Bischoff Ebsen, IFRC Europe Zone Manager; Natia Loladze, President of Red Cross Society of Georgia; Revaz Javelidze, Acting Head of Government Administration.
