The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Alain Berset, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, discussed the fruitful cooperation between Georgia and the CoE and the country's European integration.
Held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the meeting reviewed the CoE’s “significant contribution” to the implementation of reforms in Georgia.
The parties highlighted the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia and the policy of the Georgian Government in the “direction of peaceful resolution of the conflict”, pointing out the importance of “improving the effectiveness of the international mechanisms”.
In his social media message, Kobakhidze said the conversation focused on “enhancing cooperation across various domains and the joint effort required to address significant regional and global challenges”.
Kobakhidze and Berset also discussed the “necessity of joint efforts” in the process of dealing with the “challenges” facing the international community, including security, emphasizing that “there was no alternative to peace”.
He also congratulated Berset on his election as the Secretary General of the CoE in June, wishing him success.
