Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has called on the British Embassy to publicly disclose details of its financial involvement in Georgia’s 2024 parliamentary elections.
"I urge the British Embassy to disclose who it financed, and in what amounts, during the 2024 parliamentary elections, as well as who it is currently funding," Papuashvili wrote in a Facebook post.
He also appealed to individuals who may possess information regarding the Embassy's financial activities, urging them to come forward.
Papuashvili referenced a recent statement from the British Embassy, claiming it reveals intentions to support political propaganda and "extremist politicians" with the aim of disrupting the local electoral process. According to the Speaker, this supports existing concerns that the Embassy has previously attempted to fund propaganda efforts and political extremism in Georgia.
"I once again call on the British Embassy to clarify its financial engagements, both past and present," Papuashvili emphasized.
