Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday issued a sharp critique of European Union leadership, accusing Brussels of attempting to install a "vassal" Government in Georgia that would submissively follow foreign directives.
The Speaker’s remarks came in response to a question regarding why certain EU circles appear to ignore official European Commission reports, which rank Georgia among the top 20 countries globally for effective crime control.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that the Georgian Government was dealing with unhealthy governance of the European Union.
“If we were dealing with an honest discussion, self-reflection on the part of some officials in Brussels, there should be at least some reactions to such things. The fact that they try to hide the absolute contradiction between research-based findings and the baseless statements of individuals like Kaja Kallas shows we are dealing with the unhealthy governance of the European Union”, the Speaker said.
“This unhealthy governance is clearly visible within the European Union itself; we see internal confrontations. Under such governance from Brussels, it is impossible for the EU to have any prospect as a unified space, as we are witnessing an absolutely unqualified and politically motivated attitude. When the leading forces in Brussels are representatives of Baltic governments who pursue a distinctly hostile policy against the Georgian people, we expect no benefit from there”, he concluded.
