Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili accused EU-funded media of hiding the fact that a recent European Parliament resolution calls for the release of former President Mikheil Saakashvili.

He claimed the resolution, supported by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and the EU Ambassador, shows that the EU is officially demanding Saakashvili’s release. Papuashvili criticized the EU for backing someone he described as “the creator of a torture system and a dictator,” and questioned whether the EU sees Saakashvili as representative of European values.

He called on EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski to clarify whether Europe stands for “torture, dictatorship, and conflict.”
