Today, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Ascension of the Savior, one of the key feasts in the Christian calendar. The event is observed on the 40th day after Easter, which always falls on a Thursday in the sixth week of the Paschal season.
Festive services are being held in churches and monasteries across the country to mark the occasion. At 12:00 PM, a liturgy will be conducted at Holy Trinity Cathedral by His Holiness Shio, heir to the Patriarchal throne.
According to the Gospels, after His resurrection on Easter, Christ appeared to His disciples for 40 days, teaching them about the Kingdom of God. On the 40th day, He led them to the Mount of Olives in Bethany, where He raised His hands, blessed them, and began to ascend into heaven, disappearing into the clouds as His followers looked on in awe.
