The Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates the Ascension on the fortieth day after the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. A festive prayer will be conducted at all acting churches across the country on the occasion of the great feast.
According to the Holy Gospel, Christ appeared to his disciples 40 days after the resurrection and told them about Heaven.
On the 40th day after the resurrection, the disciples from the Galilee gathered together in one house in Jerusalem, where the Savior appeared to them. Jesus commanded the disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised. Christ led them in the direction of Bethany; the Mount Eleon is the site of the Ascension of Jesus.
The Ascension Day is always Thursday (the fortieth day from Easter).
