The Georgian Orthodox Church observes the Day of Apostle Andrew the First-Called on May 12, honoring his arrival in Georgia and his vital role in the spread of Christianity.
Apostle Andrew was the first of the twelve Apostles to follow Jesus Christ and later introduced his brother, Apostle Peter, to the Savior. He holds a special place in Georgian Christian tradition for his missionary journey to the land, which is commemorated annually on this day.
The Church also honors Apostle Andrew on December 13, the date of his martyrdom.
Recognizing his spiritual significance, the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church officially designated May 12 as a national religious holiday in December 2018.
