In January 2024, Georgian sunflower oil imports became cheaper by 24%. More specifically, if in January 2023 the country bought one ton of oil at an average price of $1,370, in January 2024, its price decreased to $1,041.
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), in 2024, 2,481 tons of oil worth $2,583 million were imported, while in the same period of the previous year - 1,961 tons worth $2,688 million.
It should be noted that in January 2024, oil was imported into Georgia mainly from 3 countries - Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Russia - 1,969 tons worth $1,936 million (average price per liter - $0.98)
Ukraine - 426 tons worth $536.9 thousand (average price per liter - $1.26)
Azerbaijan - 86.2 tons worth $110.2 thousand (average price per liter - $1.27)
To be informed, Russia, which is the main importer of oil in Georgia, is scheduled to leave the oil export tax at zero in March, like the previous nine months.
