The development of gas transportation and storage infrastructure and expansion of cooperation was the main topic of the meeting between the General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Giorgi Chikovani, and the President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovshan Najaf, held in Baku.
The purpose of the meeting was to further deepen the existing close partnership relationship between the state companies of the two countries and to plan the future steps. The conversation touched on the perspective of the current projects, needs and ways to solve them.
Special attention was paid to the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the field of economy, including the energy sector, which is developing successfully. The importance of joint large-scale energy and transport projects and the strengthening of Georgia's role in enhancing the Caspian oil and gas transit and energy security were emphasized.
The issues discussed also involved the projects on the increase of volumes of Azerbaijani gas in Europe. In terms of energy security of Georgia, the role of SOCAR and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a strategic partner, is of paramount importance. Therefore, the existence of close contacts and daily work with them is crucial so that important projects for our country, region and Europe can be implemented as quickly as possible", - Giorgi Chikovani said.
The delegation that arrived in Baku from Georgia included representatives of the Oil and Gas Corporation, the Gas Transportation Company and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; Zurab Pataridze, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was also present at the meeting.
