At today’s session, Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau will initiate changes to establish a DNA database.
This initiative, belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aims to enhance crime prevention, detection, investigation, and the identification of missing persons. The draft law specifies who will be subject to biological sample profiling. It mandates the profiling of accused and convicted individuals for inclusion in the DNA database.
The database will comprise genetic profiles from individuals, corpses, crime scenes, or other materials collected during criminal investigations.
Under the proposed legislation, registering a genetic profile in the DNA database will require the individual’s consent. The law also outlines the storage durations for these profiles.
