This week, Georgian national football coach Willy Sagnol was ranked ninth in the Men’s World Best National Coach category as part of the annual awards presented by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Sagnol secured this position with six points, joining a list that includes prominent figures such as Gareth Southgate, former coach of the England national team; Didier Deschamps of France; Lionel Scaloni of Argentina; and Luis de la Fuente, the coach of the Spanish national team, who won the title.
In November, the Georgian Football Federation extended Sagnol’s contract until 2028.
Sagnol has been in charge of the Georgian national team since February 2021, during which time he has overseen 44 matches, securing 20 wins, six draws, and 17 losses. Beginning in 2025, he will guide the team through the qualification stage for the 2026 World Cup, with the group stage draw scheduled for December 13.
