Chairman of Georgia’s European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, sharply criticized the upcoming U.S. Helsinki Commission hearing on Georgia, calling it a “circus” driven by political motives.
“The Commission, led by Joe Wilson, holds little interest for us. It will likely feature individuals who have fueled unrest in Georgia,” Makhashvili stated.
Responding to the Commission’s claim that Georgia is “drifting toward Russia and deepening ties with U.S. adversaries,” Makhashvili rejected the accusation, saying Georgia’s government is acting in the country’s best interest—focusing on peace, territorial integrity, and economic growth.
“It’s no one’s business, especially not Joe Wilson’s, whom Georgia cooperates with,” he added.
The hearing is set for September 10.
