The Georgian athlete, in the +80 kg weight category of the championship, defeated her Russian counterpart Anzhela Gasparian, who competed on behalf of the International Sambo Association. 

Elene Kebadze became the world champion for the second time in her career. The Georgian sambo team’s participation in the tournament, with participants from more than 50 countries, was funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Georgia.
